An Introduction To Dress For Success
Dress for Success is a UK-based charity that provides assistance to unemployed and low income women. Many women throughout the UK either do not have a job or need to find higher paying employment. Unfortunately, it is hard for a woman with a low income to find a better paying job for various reasons. However, a large part of the problem lies in the fact that a woman with low income often does not have the resources or the self confidence needed to land a good job.
Dress for Success aims to help women who need to find a better job but do not know where to start. The charity has a large number of professional outfits that have been donated by middle and upper class women. These outfits are then donated to women who are looking for a job, so that these women can look their best and thus have a better chance of getting employed.
Once a woman has been "dressed for success", a volunteer with management and/or job recruitment experience will give a woman practical advice on how to present herself at the job interview. Many women who are looking for a job are in fact highly qualified and have the skills needed to do the type of job they are applying for. However, it is not uncommon for unemployed or underemployed women to be lacking the speaking and articulation skills needed. The charity helps women to be able to express themselves well and thus have a much better chance of actually getting a job.
Other services that are provided include a breakfast club, mentoring program, free workshops, career sessions and a networking group. These services help women to connect with other women who also need help. Those who are not able to find a job right away are able to benefit from professional advice, mentoring and encouragement provided by volunteers and Dress for Success’ former beneficiaries.
Those who are looking for a worthy cause to support should consider helping this charity, either with goods or as a volunteer. This is a worthy cause that benefits women throughout the UK. Unlike other charities, this charitable organisation helps women to help themselves and become self-sufficient.
