How to Hire a Professional Article Writer

26 September '08 by David, under Content Central.

Are you a webmaster who is looking for fresh content for your website?  If so, you may turn to outsourcing.  The good news is that there are hundreds of freelance web content writers online.  But, how you do you make sure you choose the right one?

First, know what you want.  Do you want articles that are conversational in nature, informative, or a combination of the two?  How many words do you need each article to be?  What main points do you want covered?  Knowing what you want is important, as even the most experienced writer cannot provide you with what you need, if you are unsure yourself.

Next, research rates.  Do not automatically decide that you will charge a set amount of money, especially if you are just pulling this figure out a hat.  Perform a standard internet search online.  Look for freelance writers that have their rates advertised.  This can give you a good idea of how much you can expect to have articles written for.  On average, web content articles start selling at about $8 a page.

When researching article writing rates online, you may come across the websites of writers who you wish to hire.  This approach is okay, but know that there are other avenues of finding freelance writers.  This is particularly true concerning writers who do not mind functioning as ghostwriters.

ContentCentral is one way to find a professional article writer.  With that said, many writers are leery of these websites, as they does tend to host some scams.  So, provide as much information as possible.  How many words are you looking for?  What are the topics?  Do you have a deadline?  How much are you willing to pay?  How will payment be sent?  Be sure to answer these questions, as it will give writers comfort and peace of mind, which should increase the number of qualified applications you receive.

Freelance writing job boards and websites are another way to find professional freelance writers to outsource an article writing project to.  Job boards let you post your projects automatically.  Once again, be sure to provide as much information about the project.  With these boards, you should be able to fill out a form and upload your own project.  On the other hand, a person runs websites and blogs.  You may need to email that owner to have your project submitted, but most will do so free of charge.

Online bidding websites can also be used to find professional article writers.  What is nice about them is that they make it easier for you to find quality, yet affordable writers.  You post a project online, which should be free for you to do.  Then, those qualified writers will place bids on the project.  Their bids should be accompanied by samples, making it easier for you to decide on a writer.

So, what should you look for?  As for the type of articles you want written, it depends on your needs.  Do you want interesting articles for your website visitors to read?  If so, you want a content writer.  Do you want to improve your search engine rankings?  If so, you need keyword articles.  If you are looking for both, find article writers who are experienced in combining the two.  There is nothing better than pleasing the search engines and your readers at the same time.

Finally, remember to keep your eye on your profits.  When looking to hire an article writer quality is key.  That is why it is imperative that you request samples of previously published work.  On that same note, do not pay too much.  The good news is that you should be able to find a number of quality article writers who charge relatively affordable rates.  If you overpay a writer, you may cut into your profits.  Articles are typically used to generate traffic for a website that makes money selling a product or with the use of advertisements.  See how much your website makes you and keep that in mind.

5 Signs You Need to Hire An Outsourced Writer

26 September '08 by David, under Content Central.

Are you a website owner who relies on fresh content to help you make money?  If so, you may do your own article writing.  This approach is nice, but could you benefit from outsourcing these articles?  In most cases, you can.  In fact, five signs that you should hire an outsourced writer are outlined below.

1 – Your Website Quickly Takes Off

Whether you have a content filled website or a website where you sell a product or a service, content is king.  It helps you generate traffic.  This traffic is needed to see a profit.  The more internet users that visit your website, the better your chances are for making money.  Since content is so important, you should have lots of it on your website.  In fact, readers like to see fresh content.  They are more likely to return to a website they know is updated.

As great as it is to see your website traffic and sales increasing, you may not be able to keep up with the pace.  In that case, you need to hire an outsourced writer.

2 – You Want to Explore Other Opportunities Online

Selling a product, a service or making money through affiliate programs are just three of the many ways that you can make money online.  Do you want to increase your earnings?  If so, experiment with other moneymaking opportunities.  Unfortunately, you may not be able to do so if you must write ten new articles a week.  If you think that you are held back because of article writing, outsource the work.

What is nice about hiring a professional web content writer is that they can write quality articles at a quicker rate of speed.

3 – You Have a Full time Job

Yes, it is possible to make a full time income running a website that is filled with advertisements or products for sale, but many are cautious of doing so.  Some find it too risky to quick their full time job.  If you are one of those individuals, you may use the internet to make money in your spare time.  Since you may not have time to keep your website updated with unique articles, you should consider outsourcing.

4 – You Have a Family

Similar to having a full time job, if you have a family at home, you may not have the time to devote 24 hours a day to running your website.  If fact, you may not even have 8 hours to devote.  The best way to make money online, especially with websites and blogs, is to keep them updated.  Marketing is also important and can be time consuming.  To ensure that you make money online, but also get to spend quality time with your family, outsource some of your article writing projects.  You and your family will be glad that you did.

5 – You Don’t Want to Do the Work

The above mentioned reasons are all great reasons for hiring an outsourcer, but you really don’t need to have a reason.  If you want to make money online, but without having to do any physical work yourself, outsourcing is the way to go.

If you opt to outsource all or a portion of your article writing projects, remember to keep profit in mind.  Quality articles are more than worth the extra costs, but make sure you can profit from them.

Writing Articles versus Outsourcing

26 September '08 by David, under Content Central.

Are you a webmaster?  If you are, you need content for your website.  This is regardless of whether you sell a product, a service, or make money through affiliate programs.  Internet traffic is needed for you to make a sale.

One of the best ways to generate traffic to your website is with articles, namely keyword articles.  Keyword articles, when properly written, are picked up by the search engines.  This increases your traffic organically, meaning that little or no work was required on your part.  In addition to adding keyword articles to your website, you can also submit them to article directories.  When you attach a link to each article, readers are likely to follow that link to your website, generating even more traffic.

Now that you know how keyword articles can help to improve your website traffic, possibly increasing your sales, you may be curious as to how you can get started.  First, there is one important decision you will have to make.  That decision is to write your own articles or outsource the work.

Writing your own web content is nice, as it ensures you get exactly what you need.  Do you have a vision that is hard to describe in words?  If so, even the best writer may not be able to give you the article of your dreams.  It may be best to write it yourself.

Writing your own articles is free, in terms of cash.  With that said, your time may be worth money.  What would you be doing if you weren’t writing articles?  This leads to a benefit of outsourcing, free time.

If you are always on the computer, looking for ways to make money, you may not want to stop and write your own articles.  Remember, your time is worth money.  If you find yourself missing out on other great opportunities, because you are stuck writing your own web content, outsourcing may be best.

As for outsourcing your articles, it is possible to find quality article writers that charge affordable rates.  So, you can still pay someone to write for you, while limiting your business expenses.  This may give you peace of mind is knowing that you won’t be losing all of your profits by opting to outsource.

It is important to limit your business expenses, but you also want to pay for a certain level of quality.  That leads to another problem with outsourcing, quality.  When you buy outsourced articles from a ghostwriter, those articles become yours.  They will have your name attached.  For that reason, make sure the work is of good quality.  To reduce the chance of receiving poor quality articles, ask for samples first.

Most alarming, is the risk of plagiarized content.  This serves as a reminder for checking quality.  Not only should you proofread an outsourced article looking for errors, but also check its uniqueness.  Use a program like CopyScape.  Never, under any circumstances, pay a writer for sending you plagiarized work.  Why?  Because this is work that you cannot use without possibly suffering some legal consequences.

Since there are a number of pros and cons to outsourcing your article writing, you may be unsure as to which option is best.  You may want to experiment.  See if you can find quality article writers with reasonable rates.  Or, start writing your own articles.  How long does it take you to write them?  Are you losing money or wasting your time?

Content Central goes English!

17 August '08 by David, under Content Central.

After feedback from several of our resident copywriters, Content Central has changed from being a US dollar based site for projects and bids to good old Sterling. Even the date stamps throughout the site have been anglicised. I’ve also taken the view that the word ‘bid’ has some negative connotations; where possible this has been replaced by the word ‘quote’.

Why cheapest isn’t always best

10 August '08 by David, under Content Central.

There is a truism in life that ‘you get what you pay for’, the rationale being that when offered a product or service for sale, the value of that offering will have a direct correlation to the price that you end up paying for it. I can remember several occasions throughout my business life where the prospect of saving money on a particular purchase seemed like a good idea at the time; inevitably though, there is a real correlation between the real benefit vs. the real cost.

Getting what you pay for when it comes to retaining a freelance copywriter on a copy writing project is no different. The Internet has opened up the potential for freelancers from any corner of the world to quote for your copy writing project and some quotes will make you wonder how anyone could possibly write so cheaply. The defining factor is generally the cost of living where the freelancer is based; broadly speaking, the cheaper the cost of living, the lower a freelancer in that country is likely to quote for work.

So, how do you decide who to place your business with? As ever, do the research, check out their portfolio, read their feedback, then make your choice. Just bear in mind that, on balance, you’ll end up with getting what you paid for.
